Happy October!  It is getting cooler and the leaves are changing to their beautiful hues of yellow, orange, and red.  I am thoroughly enjoying the cooler, sweatshirt weather temps.  What is the start of autumn where you're at?  With this start of fall, I like many, many others, fell under the Farmer's Wife 1930's Quilt Sampler spell.  This is the first quilt-a-long I have ever done and honestly, one week in and I am loving it.

This quilt-a-long is being put on by Fat Quarter Shop &  the lovely lady behind Gnome Angel with the help of some other amazing bloggers.  We are tackling the Farmer's Wife 1930's  Sampler Quilt by Laurie Aaron Hird.  So far it is proving to be a fun adventure.  I am enjoying the suspense of what new block will come, and seeing all the lovely blocks being made out of so many different fabrics.  What's even more amazing is there is people doing this quilt all across the world - which is just awesome!!

With out further ado, here are my blocks for the week. I have decided to use fabrics from my stash.  What  I was going to use, didn't ship out in enough time to make it for the start. (I've already got it planned for something thing else...no worries.  wink.wink)  Each of these fabrics are from projects that I have made.  Either for special gifts, for myself or fabrics I 'just can't live with out.'  Each have their own story much like the stories from the book.  I am also showing the back of the blocks.  For me, sometimes it helps to see how other's iron out their seams for blocks, because some of these seams just get a little crazy.

This block is made from random pieces I have picked up in my fabric store remnant shopping adventures.

Block 2 : #16 BonnieAddyLou Creates - FW1930s-16Bonnie

All of these fabrics were used to make items I used when I had my twin daughters (nursing pillow covers & diaper bag).  These are some of my absolute favorites.

Block 3 : #8 AuntAddyLou Creates - FW1930s-8Aunt

The pink floral fabrics was one I used to make one of my niece's crib sheets, and the green lattice fabric was used to make a quilt for my cousin for the birth of her daughter.

This quilt is going to be a fun, but a challenge for me.  I am a planner, I like things to match/coordinate and flow well.  So far I have been just pulling from my stash what semi-sort-of goes with the colors in the book or by how I feel that day.  This will be a true scrappy quilt and very much out of my comfort zone but so far I am liking how things are coming together.

I am excited though - for the challenge, the year-long of sewing something new every week, but most of all the meeting of wonderful people through this event.

Cheers all - we are off to a fantastic start!  Here's to another great week!
