21 weeks...over half way!

We had our 20 week appointment yesterday (6/7/2012 - 20weeks 6 days).  The doctor was pleased how everyone is growing and how things are progressing.  We had an ultrasound on Monday with the high risk specialist, and he was also very please with the readings.  I also started on a shot today that I am going to have to do weekly.  It is supposed to help with preterm labor.  Every week (day) I can keep these babies cookin', I will do what I have to.  Which is saying quiet a bit, since I HATE shots and I am going to try and do them on my own.  EEK!

I am feeling pretty good.  My energy levels come and go.  I have been able to do more than I thought, but lately I have been feeling very exhausted.  I am kinda thinking I am still trying to catch up with the lost sleep and excitement of our Chicago adventure this past weekend.  We finally used our tickets to go see Blue Man Group (we've had them for 3 years) and also went to the German May Fest with some friends.  It was a great weekend, but all that walking while 5 months prego makes a lady tired.  We got very lucky with some beautiful weather.  And ate some amazing food!  It's fun to have a 'date' weekend every once in a while to reconnect and feel like an adult for a little while.

How far along: 21 weeks today.  133 Days to go!!!! :)

Have you started to show yet:  Yes!! I am starting to run out of shirts already that will cover my growing baby bump.
Total weight gain/loss: We are slowly gaining.  I am up 4.3 pounds from my starting weight.
Belly Button in or out? In
Rings on/off:  On as of right now.
Maternity Clothes:  Jeans & Shirt from Old Navy,  Belt & Shoes from Target.

Size of Babies: About 7 inches or 11 ounces - The size of a banana!

Weird Changes: My appetite changed again.  I am fighting myself to eat, most likely because I am running out of room in there.

Sleep: Depends on the night.  Some nights are great....others I don't think I get more that a few hours of actual sleep accompanied by lots of tossing and turning.

Best moment this week: Enjoying our date weekend in Chicago!  I love spending time with my hubby!

Movement: Lots!!!  These babies I think throughly enjoyed  Blue Man Group!  I am pretty sure they were dancing the entire time...and my bladder proved that by the end of the show.

Stretch marks? They are really becoming more pronounced.

Symptoms:  Tired and easily worn out....I am enjoying the afternoon naps :)
Labor Signs: None and hoping to keep it that way for a long time.

Food cravings: I have been not feeling super well in this department.  I make things that sounded good at first and by the time I am finished making it, I want nothing to do with it.  Which makes eating really hard.  Still eating though - I am loving the fresh salads and fruit!
Food aversions: Fish and most pork

Pregnancy best friend:  My Chaco Sandals!  I LOVE them!  I purchased them a few years ago during my 3rd pregnancy, but they are still in amazing shape.  They are great for walking and hiking.  And for prego feet they give just the right amount of support.  (I have no affiliation with Chaco...I just love their shoes!)
Zong X EcoTread™

Gender prediction: The doctors know, but we are still guessing.  ;)

What I miss: Being able to bend over well.  My feet are quickly getting out of reach.
What I am looking forward to:  Letting the kids feel the babies kick.  The kicks are stronger but still not enough to feel them really well on the outside.

Weekly Wisdom: Sleep when you can!!!!!!

Milestones: Made it to the half way mark!!!!  Only four months until we meet our new little ones!

Sewing for Twins: {A few finished projects}

It's been a busy sewing week so far in my little studio.  I have to say I love projects that are quick and easy to do.  And when sewing for two, this makes it a easier too.  Both of these projects have been simple patterns, one being that I made and the other from Pinterest.

{Boppy Cover}

I found the tutorial and pattern for the boppy cover at the blog A Load of Craft.  There are also tons of  patterns and other inspiration on Pinterest, but I just wanted something simple and pretty.  This pattern was super easy!  Just the way I like it.  The tutorial was fairly easy to follow too, although I just printed out one set of the pattern pieces (it said to do it twice, still working out why that is.)  It took about an hour the first time around, and less than that once I figured out what I was doing. I love the bright colors and the way they look.  I decided to try and do something a little more on the unisex side with the blueish floral pattern on one side and the orange geometric on the other.  It probably leans a little more to the girly side, but I think they will still work just fine.

{High Chair Covers}

The high chair covers were a little more labor intensive, but still fairly easy.  I am working on actually doing a tutorial on it, I had that much fun making them. :)  I based it off of a cover that already came with my high chair, but that was showing much wear and tear after three other kiddos have used it.   Again once I got the pattern down, it moved fairly quickly from start to finish.  I got really fast by the time all 4 of them were done.  Like I said from this post, I am unsure where I got this fabric from but I have had it for a while and haven't had a project, until now, that I have really wanted to use it on.  They are fun and bright and cheery! Plus I have two sets, so when one gets dirty, I have another set clean and at the ready!

So what do you think?

Thanks for reading.  Be on the watch out for the tutorial for the High Chair Cover.  It is being worked on!!!

18 Weeks & my two sweet, little pears!

We had our 17 week appointment last Thursday (5/17/11 - 17 weeks 6 days).  Sorry for the delay in this post, its been a CRAZY couple of weeks.  Hopefully now though, things are going to slow down.  Anyway, the babies and I are doing very well.  The doctor was pleased with how things are going.  Heart rates were 151 and 145 - still one of the most exciting things to hear!  With the twins, they have started measuring me already.  So at almost 18 weeks, I measured out at 24 weeks or another comparison at 4.5 months I look like I am 6 months pregnant.  Honestly, I just laughed.  I am going to be huge!!!!

Within the last few days, I really have begun to "feel" pregnant with twins.  I know that's a funny way of saying it.  But certain things are becoming harder to do, and you don't really notice it right away.  For instance, it is already super hard to paint my toes.  While ironing a project this morning, the steam kept burning my belly. Its getting harder to carry the laundry baskets because my belly is "in the way." I am quickly running out of lap room for my other three kiddo to sit on.  And that's just to name a few things.  I know they are little things, but its kinda scary that this is happening so quickly.  In my other pregnancies, I wasn't feeling this way until right before we had the baby.  I guess I had better get used to asking for help.  I think I am really going to be needing it sooner than I thought.  I am still really excited about the babies, so don't get me wrong.  It's just hard accepting that I can't accomplish the things that I want to do easily.

How far along: 18 weeks 5 days, today.  149 Days to go!!!! :)
Have you started to show yet:  Yes!! And it's growing every day!
Total weight gain/loss: Still down about 2 lbs from starting, but have gained another 2 lbs.
Belly Button in or out? In
Rings on/off:  On as of right now.
Maternity Clothes:  Jeans, Shirt from Old Navy,  Necklace from my hubby on our first Christmas together while dating (boy that was a while ago....hahaha).

Size of Babies: About 5.5 inches. The size of a pear - So two, dancing, sweet little pears!

{picture source}

Weird Changes:  Apparently this pregnancy is making my skin more prone to sunburn.  Yes, I do have fair skin to begin with, but never have I been the only one looking like a lobster after a few hours outside!!

Sleep: Sleeping like a rock!  We have been sooooo busy, that sleep has been coming very easy and making it really hard to get up in the morning or staying awake at night to hang out with the hubby.

Best moment this week: Being told that you look pretty.  It's hard sometimes to feel pretty when you don't feel well, are tired and uncomfortable, and when you feel you look like a whale.

Movement: The belly is starting to jump in different directions.  :)

Stretch marks? They are really becoming more pronounced.

Symptoms:  Tired and easily worn out.
Labor Signs: None and hoping to keep it that way for a long time.

Food cravings: The last 2 weeks have been interesting.  I haven't had really an appetite for anything.  I am hungry, but nothing really sounds good.  I think it partly stems from some mild stress and the fact I am quickly running out of room for food.
Food aversions: Fish, most sweets still.

Pregnancy best friend:  Again my 64 oz water bottle!  With summer quickly on its way, it keeps me on track for getting my fluids in.

Gender prediction:

Still taking guesses.  Thoughts on names anyone??

What I miss: Having a glass of wine with a special dinner.  Stupid I know!
What I am looking forward to:  Letting the kids feel the babies kick.  The kicks are stronger but still not enough to feel them really well on the outside.

Weekly Wisdom: Watch out for the sun!!!! & Wear sunscreen! Guess I am going to need to invest in a floppy hat.

Milestones: Getting closer to the half way mark.  (We are actually already there by, my personal delivery standards...but who counting? )

Sewing for Twins

With the up and coming arrival (4.5 months to go) of our little twins, I have been making lists all over the place. Being 'seasoned' parents of three, we have most of the stuff that we needed already.  Now we just need some of it times two.  So far we have put a dent in some of the things that we need through garage sales thanks to my mother-in-law and watching the Target baby sales.  So far so good on most, just a few more small 'gear' items and we are done.

Now this brings me to to the fun stuff.  The stuff that I get to make.  We are planning/trying to not to find out what we are having, although the amount of ultrasounds that I think we are going to be having might make that hard in the end.  Anyways, we are preparing for what ever may arrive.  I am gearing up to make some blankets, burp cloths, bobby covers, highchair covers, pacifier clips and hats.  There might be more depending on how ambitious I get.  Check out some of the fun fabrics I have found so far.

How can you not love polka dots???  I am loving these fun colors for the swaddle blankets.  I just couldn't resist.  And plus they will all match no matter what combination I use!  YAY!!
{Micheal Miller Ta Dot Collection & Timeless Treasures Flannel/ Joann Fabrics Quilter's Flannel}

I fell in love with these fabrics on my last Fabric.com order.  I think it will look wonderful to make matching bobby covers and be kind of gender neutral.  I just loved the bright colors!

{Bijoux Tiled Primrose Red & Bella Flora Floral Mosiac Blue/Orange

I have had this fabric for a while and had been unsure how/where I was going to use it.  I think for high chair covers this would be tons of fun!

{I think I got these from Joann Fabrics, but not sure}

Crochet hats I that I have been working on at night.  Still needing to make some more.  But they are fun 'busy projects.'

Ribbon for Pacifier Clips.  Haven't really decided what colors combos I am going to be doing yet.  Here are just some of the ones that I have on hand already.

You are probably thinking I am crazy for making all this stuff for the multiple combinations (girl/girl, boy/boy/ girl/boy) but I find it very fun.  We have not found out what we were having with each pregnancy.  For us it was one of the most exciting experiences.  I have always loved looking at the surprise on my husbands face.  I can't pass that feeling up with the twins, as much fun as it would be to know.  I am aware I am going to have tons of things left over depending on what we are blessed with.  But, I do still have plans for all the extras.  Hats will be donated to the hospital for other new arrivals.  Blankets and burp cloths will either be gifted, put up on my etsy shop, or donated as well.  I haven't really decided on those.   So don't worry, things are not going to go to waste.

Thanks for reading!!

11 weeks!

Yesterday was my second appointment.  I learned more about what precautions are going to be taken to help keep these babies from joining the party early once I get to 16-18 weeks.  Carrying twins is going to be an interesting experience.  So far it has not been hard, but I can already tell when I have over done it, or not drank enough for the day.  Its funny how different pregnancy can be for each child. This one is already taking a toll on my body. Changes to my hair, nails, and I can never seem to get enough sleep.  I am hoping as the first trimester comes to a close, the exhaustion with go away and be replaced with more energy.  I would really like that.  Otherwise all is well.  The belly is growing.  And we are having fun attempting to pick names.  Even the kids are getting their say in this time too.  Here are some fun facts about these last few weeks.

How far along: 11 weeks, today
Have you started to show yet:  Yes!!  There is no hiding it now!
Total weight gain/loss: down 6.5 lbs between the nausea and the flu from last month it took some weight off.  I eat, but I think the babies are using it faster than I can get it in.
Belly Button in or out? In
Rings on/off:  On as of right now.
excuse the weird hair and cheesy smile...it was a long day

Size of Babies: The size of a fig this week.  So imagine two figs in there. :)

Weird Changes:  The biggest is my hair.  I used to have wavy/curly hair with lots of body, that I always needed to make sure was done. Most of the curl disappeared after having our 3rd child.  Now, it completely straight and I don't have to do a whole lot to it to keep it straight like I used to.

Maternity Clothes:   The shirt I am wearing in the picture is actually a non-maternity shirt I happened upon for $3 at Meijer right before we found out we were expecting.  Pants from the last pregnancy from Old Navy, the only place you can find tall lengths in maternity jeans without spending an arm and a leg.   And I had to get a new belly band from Target to keep those pants up!

Sleep: Sleeping very soundly, but still getting up exhausted.  Getting up a few times a night to pee.

Best moment this week: Miss E kissing my belly and saying sorry to the babies after bumping into my tummy.  So precious!!

Movement: Starting to feel little flutters!! :)

Stretch marks? No new ones yet...hoping they don't appear for awhile.
Symptoms:  Very tired and nauseous.
Labor Signs: None.

Food cravings: BEEF and Hamburgers!  It's seriously about the only thing that ever sounds good these days! Oh and fresh salads...I can't get enough.
Food aversions: Fish, most sweets and sausage!

Pregnancy best friend:  My 64oz water bottle!  Trying to keep those fluids up!!

Gender prediction:

We are taking guesses!!!

What I miss: Fish, especially with it being lent and all the fish frys going on.  Its just not fair...haha
What I am looking forward to:  Hearing the heart beats for the first time!!  And my 12 week ultra sound!

Weekly Wisdom: Sleep when you are able!!
Milestones: a quarter of the way through the pregnancy!

Thanks for reading.  I promise once I get my energy back there will be some more fun posts.  But until then, you get to see how the babies are doing!  Have a wonderful weekend!
